It starts with one woman.
Florida grew up herding goats instead of going to school. As an adult, she began weaving to help her family, but without literacy, she faced daily challenges — she couldn’t read her Bible, track orders, or understand written information without help.
Everything changed when she joined Azizi Life’s first literacy class.
“I had lived in sadness because I couldn’t read or write,” she said. “But Azizi Life opened my eyes.”
Today, Florida reads with confidence. She runs her own weaving business. She teaches other women. And all four of her children have finished school — a cycle broken.

Azizi Life Impact
Azizi Life is so much more than a business. As a social enterprise, each of our businesses positively impacts rural communities in Rwanda by providing regular work and fair wage income for our artisan partners. Through this income opportunity, the artisans are advancing in their goals to raise their families out of poverty.
What does this increased income do? Children become the first in their families to go to secondary school. Families become healthier because of health insurance that guarantees them affordable medical care. Parents purchase livestock that generate even more income. And our artisan partners share that they also use their Azizi Life craft income to assist others in their community, employ their neighbors, and of course support the local economy.
The impact of Azizi Life goes beyond income generation for one artisan to benefit their entire family and other families in the community.
Individual, family and community impact through fair wages is only one part of the Azizi Life vision. From the beginning, the dream of Azizi Life was to create a self-sustaining development model. The goal was to set up businesses that positively impact families and communities and are profitable enough to support larger community development projects.
It was out of this dream that our Rwandan team founded a local non-profit which in English we call Azizi Life Impact and in Kinyarwanda is Ubuzima Bwiza Iwacu. Each of our businesses gives support to the local non-profit and donates 20% of their profits each year. Azizi Life Impact then uses this money, plus additional donations raised through our US non-profit, to work alongside artisans and their communities to provide access to life-building resources.
