Local + Lejos: A Year in Review 2016

We are celebrating our first full year in operation, and what a journey it has been.

To start, we could not have done it without our hard working artisans abroad, our devoted staff, and YOU! From the bottom of our hearts, we THANK YOU for a wonderful year. We hope Local + Lejos has inspired you to elevate your space, fill your home with goods that make a difference in this world, and to strive for the best in the last year, as you have done with us! In celebration, here are a few highlight moments and notable happenings at Local + Lejos in 2016.

Team Growth

When I started the brand in 2015, I wasn’t sure what the future would be. Introducing six new people to our team this year has been more than I could have ever hoped for and its been an amazing reality watching our dreams come to life.

New Products

In the last year, we have expanded our offerings in more ways than one. We have introduced our Lumbar Pillow and Rug Collection from Mexico, Ankole Cowhorn Tableware from Uganda, Indigo Bowl Series from Rwanda, and added some brand new colors and patterns to our Blankets from Cambodia. We love incorporating your feedback into our product development process, and getting your reactions on our designs keeps us excited to show you more.

First Pop-Up Store

We partnered with the ROW in DTLA as part of their Holiday Collective to bring you our first pop-up shop! The ROW is a new space in the city to experience the art and the cultural spectrum of Los Angeles. This space is brand new to the LA scene, and enhances the artistic character of the Arts District. Being a part of this community of makers including Daniel Wellington, Modern Citizen, Rolling Greens, tokyobike has inspired us to collaborate more, and utilize the LA Arts community as an influential resource. We learned so much meeting you in person, and hearing about what is most important for you in creating your space. Thanks to all who came by!

Greater Impact

What ultimately drives us at Local + Lejos is the work we do with our artisans abroad. This year, we doubled our artisan partners from 86 to 168. As always, our focus is on sustainable employment as we grow our team. We traveled to Cambodia, Mexico, and Guatemala to spend time on the ground with our artisans, and to connect you with the talented individuals that craft our quality pieces. Without your support, we would not be able to grow our impact, so thank you. With the hard work and dedication of our artisan partners, our Local + Lejos team, and our loyal customers, we look forward to the milestones that next year will bring. Here’s to 2017!
