The Craft Behind the Product
On the rolling hills of Rwanda, sisal grows tall and strong for nearly two years before it is ready to harvest. Skilled women artisans carefully cut the leaves by hand, strip away the outer layers to reveal the strong white fibers, then wash and dry them in the sun.
The fibers are dyed using natural Rwandan tea for warm, earthy tones or colored in small batches in our color lab to create custom designs. Once the sisal is ready, the weaving begins.
Using a needle and thread, each woman carefully stitches coils of sisal around a bundle of natural fibers, creating a coaster that is both beautiful and functional. Every stitch reflects generations of skill, patience, and careful craftsmanship, transforming simple natural materials into a piece designed for everyday living.
Whether protecting your table, displayed as part of a woven wall collection, or shared as a thoughtful gift, each coaster carries the story of the woman who made it and the beauty of Rwanda's weaving tradition.
