A Home With Intention: Joanna Hawley

We are always inspired when we see unique designs and home decor. So when we came across Joanna on her Instagram, we couldn’t be more impressed. Her modern boho style mixed with one-of-a-kind pieces make for eye-catching designs that really stand out. We knew we had to chat with about her take on home decor, design, and style!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself, what it is you do, and what a typical day looks like for you?

I am a Seattle-based blogger, stylist, and Pinterest influencer. I sort of have about a million different projects going at any given time, whether it’s working on sponsored content for the blog, helping a brand revamp their Pinterest boards, or styling Instagram shots. Typically, I start my day at the gym with my very mean (just kidding) trainer, then I spend the whole day in my studio. Some days are full of errands, so I’m often on the road a lot, too!

Wow, sounds like you wear many hats! How long have you done that?

I’ve been working for myself for 3 years.

What do you think creates a home?

I’ve thought about this a lot, especially now that I own my first home. I realized that it was my home when I was traveling and felt a yearning to be in my home instead. That moment really helped me to realize that my bungalow was truly my home.

What started your passion with styling and designing?

I went to school for Industrial Design, which led to a career in textile, furniture, and tabletop design. My eyes were always open to new artforms, designs, and imagery, so I think it was just a natural progression for me to transition into more of an image-based type of career.

What is your best advice on remaining consistent with a style when it comes to home decor?

I’m actually still figuring this out! I would say that trusting your gut instinct is most important. For example, my instincts cautioned me against buying a specific chair, but I did it anyways… and now I’m already looking for a replacement because I hate the chair so much! Funny how that works, huh.

Do you have any personal or business goals for 2017?

SO many goals. I really want to grow the styling side of my business, so I’m focused on that, professionally. And, personally, I’m still working on renovating the house, with a focus on the bedroom and exterior this year.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Everywhere, but especially when traveling. I am also a huge fan of road tripping and find that I’m most creative when I’m away from a computer and technology.

What are you currently loving in your home right now?

Right now I am obsessed with my navy blue pop wall. Everything looks amazing photographed next to it!

What are a few pieces you would love to have in your tiny bungalow?

Does a closet count?? The house doesn’t have a single one, so I’ve been lusting after all kinds of storage options.

Is there anywhere you’d like to travel to next?

I’ve already got London and Italy on my roster for this year, but I’m dying to show my boyfriend around Greece, too.
